Easter in Mallorca
Semana Santa or Holy Week, is an important religious observance in Mallorca, Spain, marking the final week of Lent and the commemoration of the death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In 2024, Holy Week / Semana Santa runs from Palm Sunday on March 24th to Easter Monday on 1st April. You will find processions, church services, as well as street celebrations and markets throughout the week
Every year Mallorca celebrates Semana Santa with lots of emotion, traditional and faith, and 2024 will be no exception - and will even bring some new experiences and very special moments for those who participate. Here are a few highlights to see if you can:
Palma: All processions maintain their usual schedules and routes, with the exception of Holy Thursday / Jueves Santo - More detailed information of the full itinerary can be found here. Some are highlighted below:
Easter processions:

24/03 – Domingo de Ramos - 6pm. Starting at the entrance of Jesús en Jerusalén.

25/03 - Buen Perdón - 8.30pm at the Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón.

26/03 - la Virgen Dolorosa – 9pm. Sant Nicolau Church.

27/03 - Sant Crist de Santa Creu – 8.30 pm. Starting from the Church of Santa Creu.

28/03 Sant Crist de la Sang – 7pm - Starting and Ending at the Church of la Anunciación de María.

29/03 Sant Enterrament – 7pm. Starting at the Basílica de Sant Francesc.
Inca: Screened on March 23 in Santa Maria la Major - this year Las Converses is led by Cardinal Omella - The Archbishop of Barcelona, and promises to be a truly spiritually fulfilling event. This will take place after the Vigilia de Ramos and the Procesión de los Estandartes.

Pollença: On Good Friday at 9:00 p.m, the Davallament of Jesús de la Creu takes place. This emotional and sober event starts at the top of the Calvari steps, a procession down into the town follows. The event includes traditional songs, prayers and a reading of the poem “Processó” by Costa i Llobera.
Manacor: Processions wind through picturesque streets adorned with floral decorations and illuminated by candlelight, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The local churches, such as the Basilica of San Juan, play a central role in the celebrations, hosting religious services and displaying revered religious artefacts for worshippers and visitors alike.
Llucmajor: The Sermó de l’Enganalla in the Convent of Sant Bonaventura holds special significance during Semana Santa. Additionally, Diumenge de l'Àngel commemorates the 400th anniversary of the fire in the chapel, offering a poignant reflection on faith and resilience.
