Festes del Turista 2024

September 21st to 29th 2024, Cala Millor

Each September, Cala Millor, on the east coast of Mallorca hosts a week-long celebration blending tradition, entertainment, and gratitude in a vibrant festival known as the Festes del Turista (Tourist Festival). This year marks the 49th edition of the festival, running from September 21st to 29th, 2024; an event not-to-be missed for holidaymakers, locals and residents.

The Festes del Turista is not just a celebration; it is a heartfelt tribute to the visitors who flock to this picturesque island. As the high tourist season transitions to its quieter months, the festival serves as a thank-you to the millions of people who choose Mallorca as their destination each year. Organised by the town councils of Son Servera and Sant Llorenç, along with the Hotel Association, the festival shines a spotlight on the rich cultural tapestry of the island, offering visitors a taste of authentic Mallorcan life through music, gastronomy, and traditional spectacles.

A Program Packed with Diverse Events

The 2024 edition promises an exciting mix of activities that cater to a broad range of interests. Whether you're a lover of local gastronomy, a fan of live music, or someone seeking family-friendly entertainment, the festival has it all.

On Saturday, September 21st, the festivities kick off with a concert by the music bands of Son Servera and Sant Llorenç at Cala Bona Harbour, followed by a Wine Night where guests can enjoy wine tastings in the serene atmosphere of the bay. For only €10, attendees can sample a variety of regional wines and even get a discount on their purchase.

Throughout the week, markets in Sa Coma and Son Servera offer fresh local produce and crafts, while a Gastro Market in Sant Llorenç on Thursday, September 26th, provides an opportunity to explore the flavours of the island, from delicious tapas to traditional Mallorcan treats.

As the week progresses, World Tourism Day on Friday, September 27th is marked with cultural highlights, including a performance by the folklore dance group Sa Revetlla at Cala Bona Port, showcasing the rhythm and spirit of Mallorcan dance.

Turistapa: A Feast of Tapas and Tradition

One of the most anticipated events of the festival is Turistapa, held on Saturday, September 28th. From 7:00 pm, the streets come alive with a jaw-dropping performance from La Colla Castellera Al·lots de Llevant.  Afterwards, attendees are invited to indulge in a tapas tasting at Parc de la Mar, where local restaurants, hotels, and associations offer an array of tapas that highlight the island’s culinary excellence. Later that evening, the Light Up the World show, in collaboration with Hipotels Animation, will light up the park with performances that promise a night of visual spectacle.

The Grand Finale: A Night of Fire

The festival culminates on Sunday, September 29th with a Nit de Foc or Night of Fire, a thrilling celebration known as Correfocs. The streets of Cala Millor will be taken over by the Dimonis de Son Ganxó, performers dressed as devils who march and dance through the town, accompanied by fireworks and music, in a dramatic and awe-inspiring parade. The spectacle begins on Cristòfol Colom Street and concludes at Parc de la Mar, setting the stage for the festival’s grand finale—a magnificent fireworks display over Cala Millor Pier at 10:30 pm.

The Correfoc is a deeply rooted Mallorcan tradition, where participants run and dance through the streets as pyrotechnics explode around them, dancing with the "devils" as they navigate a fiery maze. It’s a thrilling experience that offers a glimpse into the island’s cultural heritage, dating back to the 12th century. Children under 14 cannot participant without adult supervision and fire-proof clothing is a must. We advise reading the Festes de Turista 2024 program for further safety advice before attending.

At its core, the Festes del Turista is a celebration of Mallorca’s enduring charm, its welcoming spirit, and its commitment to making each visitor feel like a part of the island’s fabric. From concerts and parades to gourmet delights and unforgettable fireworks, this festival is a vibrant, multi-sensory journey that leaves all whom attend with memories to cherish.

So, whether you’re already a Cala Millor fan or you’re planning your first visit, the Festes del Turista 2024 offers a perfect blend of entertainment and culture to close out your summer in Mallorca. Be sure to pack your sense of fun, your appetite, and—if you’re daring enough—your flame-resistant clothing, as you prepare to immerse yourself in this dazzling celebration.
